Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI)
Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI) is an advanced technique of fertility treatment. It is used in IVF treatments to examine the high-quality sperms and then includes injecting them into the egg for fertilization. This is also said to be the enhanced version of ICSI treatments. For the selection of high-quality sperms, a high-powered microscope is used.
Reasons to choose IMSI
- High levels of DNA fragmentation
- High levels of sperm aneuploidy
- The egg quality has appeared to be normal
- Repeated early abortions
- Miscarriage History
- More than 90% of abnormal forms in sperm
- Previous failed IVF cycles
- Male infertility factor
Analyzing the Sperms
With the help of this microscope, the sperm cells having irregularities can be disposed and hence only the best sperm cells are selected for the further process.
Microinjection into Egg
The chosen sperm is then used for the traditional process of ICSI wherein the sperm is microinjected into the mature egg.
